Fashion show for blind
A fashion show in aid of the National Council for the Blind tandem challenge is being held on Thursday, February 23 at 8 pm in Mountmellick Sports Complex.
There will be a cheese and wine reception. Admission: adults €10, senior citizens and children •6. Tickets are available from O’Gorman’s Newsagents, Patrick Street. This will be a great night out in support of a very worthy cause.
Table Quiz
The parent's council of Scoil Phadraig Naofa are holding a table quiz tonight (Wednesday) at 9.30pm in The Mellick Inn. Questions by Michael Linehan; table of four €20. Please lend us your support.
Change Of Mass Venue
From last weekend, Saturday, January 21 Masses will be celebrated in the concert hall (CYMS cinema) at 7.30pm on Saturday evenings and at 9am and noon on Sundays instead of in St. Joseph’s Church. This is to facilitate further work on the church.
Enrolment
St. Joseph’s GNS, Scoil Phadraig Naofa - enrolment of junior infants for September 2006 at Davitt Road continues today, Wednesday, from 1 to 3pm. Please bring your child’s birth certificate, baptismal certificate, PPS No, a small photograph and immunisation card.
Information Evening
On Monday, January 30, at 7.3 pm an information evening for parents/guardians of children who wish to be enrolled as first years in the community school in Septemberwill be held. Enrolment and assessment testing for all the students involved will take place on Saturday, February 4, from 9am to noon.
Macra Notes
Congratulations to Ann Marie Hourigan who competed in the All-Ireland impromptu public speaking final in Westport, Mayo. Ann Marie performed brilliantly but unfortunately was unsuccessful on the night. Macra would like to thank everyone for their support last week at the table quiz. Mountmellick Macra congratulate Pauric Walshe on winning the IFA presidential election and look forward to supporting him over the next four years.
The Rock GAA Club
The first committee meeting of 2006 was held in the clubhouse on Thursday, January 12. Many topics were discussed for the forthcoming year. There is a table quiz in aid of the Rock NS development in Turley’s Bar on Friday, February 3, at 9.30pm sharp. It is in aid of a fantastic cause. All are welcome, please attend.
The weekly fundraiser recommences on Monday, February 6. This is a fantastic means of fundraising for the club. The work carried out by ticket sellers and the fantastic support from the public is an invaluable asset to the club. Looking forward to your continued support for the forthcoming year.
Charity Shop
The Charity Shop in Parnell Street will be open each week on Thursdays from 10am to 3pm.
Grow Group
A Grow Group meets each week in Mountmellick. If you are someone who experiences depression or anxiety attacks or who is simply in need of company you are welcome to come along. You will have the opportunity to meet others, share your problems in confidence, get support and make new friends. All are welcome. Meetings take place in the MDA, Irishtown, at 3 pm on Monday. Jazz Ballet Classes
Classes are being taught every Wednesday in Mountmellick Macra Hall. Under-10s from 5-6 pm, and 10 years and over from 6-7pm. Contact Michelle for details.
Money Advice
MABS-the money advice and budgeting service will be running an Outreach service at MDA on the first Thursday of every month from 10 am to 12.30pm. No appointments needed.
Laois Citizen's Information Service
Is in attendance every Wednesday at MDA, Irishtown, from 10am to noon or may be contacted at the Portlaoise office. Anyone who would like help with tax problems, social welfare entitlements, health, housing, or any related problem are welcome to attend.
GAA News
Laois County Board Clubs draw
All ticket holders and sellers are asked to return their tickets as soon as
possible as the first draw will be held at the end of this month. Everyone
is asked to make a big effort at ticket sales over the next two weeks. Tickets
will be taken in on nights in Owenass hall prior to the fundraiser.
Hurling Training
For minors and adults continues on Saturday evenings at 5.30pm. Hopefully, the trend of a great turnout last week will continue.
