Laois Anthology launched

In the new Laois Anthology launched in County Hall last week, there are eight authors included who are either living now in Mountmellick or grew up here. They have contributed stories and poems to the new anthology called ‘From Margy to the Slieve Bloom’ which is edited by Jean O’Brien.

The Mountmellick parish contributors are Rena McEvoy, Mairead O’Mara, Phyl O’Brien, Sheelagh Coyle, Paul Carr, Niamh Dempsey, Denis Hartnett and Ann Egan. The Anthology is on sale in bookshops priced €10.

Mountmellick Gun Club

The above are holding a shoot for Gun Club members and friends at Gorman’s Bog on Sunday, January 8 from 2pm to 4pm. Contact Stephen Lynch or Ray Murphy for details.

Community Care

The annual Christmas party will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2006, more details later.

Lourdes

Next year’s parish pilgrimage to Lourdes has been booked from Friday, July 21 to Wednesday, July 26, 2006. Members of the Lourdes committee will meet each Saturday night in the Town Hall from 8.15pm until 9pm from January 7 onwards.

Bookings and deposits (€130 per person) will be taken from those intending to travel. For further details please contact Anne Hanlon or John Joe McEvoy.

Mountmellick Charity Shop

The Charity Shop in Parnell Street will be open each week on Thursdays from 10am to 3pm.

Grow Group

A Grow Group meets each week in Mountmellick. If you are someone who experiences depression or anxiety attacks or who is simply in need of company you are welcome to come along. You will have an opportunity to meet others, share your problems in confidence, get support and make new friends. All are welcome. Meetings take place in the MDA, Irishtown at 3pm on Monday. Jazz Ballet Classes

The above classes are being held every Wednesday in Mountmellick Macra Hall. Under 10’s from 5pm to 6pm and 10 years and over from 6pm to 7pm. Contact Michelle for details.

Laois Citizens Information Service

The above is in attendance every Wednesday at MDA Irishtown from 10am to noon or else may be contacted at the Portlaoise office. Anyone who would like help with tax problems, social welfare entitlements, health, housing or any related problem are welcome to attend.
