Sarsfields Ladies Football
In the Leinster semi-final win over Meath Emma McEvoy. Grace Weston, Mags McEvoy, Ciara O’Loughlin and Aileen O’Loughlin all saw action with Clare Conlon, Patrice Deffew and Claire O’Loughlin on the bench.
Meanwhile seven Sarsfields players featured on the Laois ladies minor football panel that suffered a heavy defeat by Cork in the All Ireland final in Birr on Saturday, July 17. Having defeated Wexford, Offaly, Kildare and Donegal on the way to the decider, Laois harboured hopes of an upset against the Rebels but the form book stood and Cork won their second in a row.
Despite the defeat the players put up a brave fight but simply had not enough firepower to overcome a rampant Cork outfit. Mary Hyland, Patrice Deffew, Fiona Whelan, Clare Conlon, Claire O’Loughlin and team captain Mags McEvoy all saw action during the game while Aoife Cleary was among the subs.
In the opening round of the summer league against Park/Ratheniska Sarsfields went down by 3-10 to 4-4. After falling behind by eight points Sarsfields put in a storming finish with the help of two brilliant goals form 13 metre frees by Aoife Cleary to narrow the gap to three.
