Large attendance at First Holy Communion
There was a large attendance of parents, teachers, relatives and friends on Saturday, May 15 at the celebration of First Holy Communion for the children of The Rock NS, Scoil Phadraig Naofa and St. Joseph’s GNS in St. Joseph’s Parish Church. Rev. Fr. Francis MacNamara was assisted by Fr. Noel Dunphy on the day. Music was provided by Antoinette Dickinson and the junior choir.

First Holy Communion St. Mary’s Church
The children from Clonaghadoo NS celebrated their First Holy Communion on Sunday, May 16 with a large gathering of family and friends at St. Mary’s Church, Clonaghadoo. Those receiving were Leigh O’Brien, Jennifer Gorman, Deirdre Gorman, Katie Granger, Michelle Hogan, Rachel Abraham, Conor Bowe and Sean Dalton.
Castlebrack Cemetery
The Rosary will be recited in Castlebrack cemetery on Sunday evenings at 7pm during the month of May. Everybody is welcome along.
Laois Citizens Information Service
The above is in attendance every Wednesday at MDA Irishtown from 10am to noon or else may be contacted at the Portlaoise office. Anyone who would like help with tax problems, social welfare entitlements, health, housing or any related problem are welcome to attend.
Grow Group
A Grow Group meets each week in Mountmellick. If you are someone who experienced depression or anxiety attacks or who is simply in need of company do come along.
You will have an opportunity to meet others, share your problems in confidence, get support and make new friends. All are welcome.

Mountmellick GAA
ACFL Division 2: Mountmellick’s Intermediate footballers maintained their unbeaten run in the league as they defeated Courtwood by 1-12 to 0-9 at Parc Acragar on Wednesday, May 12. The home side were always on top but their inability to convert all their chances was a cause for concern. Their next match is against Ballyroan next weekend -check fixtures.
Intermediate championship: Just three days after their league game the Intermediate footballers travelled to Ballyroan on Saturday evening, May 15, to play Abbeyleix in round 2 of the championship. They won on a score of 2-14 to 2-9. Having raced into an early lead they were reeled back at the interval. They had to do it all again in the second half and were pushed all the way by Abbeyleix but kept their composure to win by six points.
