Mission Alive quiz tonight
The Mission Alive annual quiz will be held tonight (Wednesday) at 9.30pm in the Mellick Inn.
This quiz was a huge success last year and raised funds for an orphanage for the children of AIDS victims in Japata in Lusaka, Zambia. We hope all last year’s supporters will once again organise teams.

Will hold their annual churchgate collection on Saturday and Sunday, November 27 and 28. Please subscribe generously.
Women’s Group
Will host a Christmas flower arranging evening with Pat Cooper on Thursday, December 2. The group is still looking for new members so do come along and bring a friend. It’s all happening in the Methodist hall beside the town hall.
Jazz/Ballet Classes
Every Wednesday in Mountmellick Macra hall - under-10s from 5 to 6pm; 10 years and over from 6 to 7pm. Contact Michelle for details.
Citizen’s Info
Laois Citizens’ Information Service is in attendance every Wednesday at the MDA, Irishtown, from 10am to noon or may be contacted at the Portlaoise office, 0502-21425. Anyone who would like help with tax problems, social welfare entitlements, health, housing or any related problem is welcome to attend.
Grow Group
A Grow group meets each week in Mountmellick. If you are someone who experiences depression or anxiety attacks or who is simply in need of company, do come along. You will have an opportunity to meet others, share your problems in confidence, receive support and make new friends. All are welcome. Meetings take place in the MDA, Irishtown, at 3pm on Mondays. Lourdes
Next year’s pilgrimage to Lourdes has been booked from July 21 to 26. Deposits are now being accepted. Those wishing to treat a family member or friend for Christmas may do so by paying a deposit to any member of the committee.
Sinn Fein News
The trip to Belfast, which includes visits to various historical sites, is going ahead on the last weekend in November. Also the 2005 Republican Resistance Calendar is now available and as 2005 is the 100th anniversary of the founding of Sinn Féin, this year’s calendar contains both historical and topical illustrations. Anyone interested please contact John Nelson.
ICA
The monthly meeting was held on Tuesday, November 9. Mary B. Culliton chaired the meeting and welcomed three new members. The secretary gave a detailed report of the last meeting as did the treasurer. Hostesses for the evening were Carmel Gorman and Kay Cullen. Votes of sympathy were passed with families who lost loved ones since the last meeting in particular Breda Moss who was a member of the guild and held the position of president back in the 1970s.
A very interesting talk and display of photographs was given by Charlie White, a member of the photographic society. A floral display will take place in Eamon A’ Chnoic’s on Thursday, November 25. The arrangements will be by Enda Thompson. There will be a federation meeting in Knock hall, Spink, on Sunday afternoon, November 28, at 3pm. Members please note the change of date of the next guild meeting. It will be on Tuesday, December 7, with the Christmas party. It was decided at the meeting to cancel further committee meetings for the winter months.
Thanks to the clubs who are renting the hall presently, it is much appreciated. Six members attended the presentation to guild president Mary B. at a function in her honour at the Manor Court Hotel in Abbeyleix. It was given by Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Eireann in recognition of all Mary B’s work through the years for CCE.
It is hoped that the guild will put a team forward for the table quiz in aid of Orphas Aid (Zambia) in the Mellick Inn tonight (Wednesday).
Athletics Club
Training has resumed on Tuesdays at 7pm in the sports complex. Anyone interested in joining the club or who would like to help out in any way is welcome to attend.
GAA
The committee meeting due to be held on Monday, November 22, has been deferred until tonight (Wednesday) at 8pm in the clubhouse, Acragar. County Board tickets can be purchased from any committee member or team trainer. The first draw will take place in January.
Comhaltas News
Mountmellick branch of CCE would like to ask anyone who has unwanted musical instruments if they would consider donating them to the branch for the use of children who are beginning music lessons. Also, adult classes began yesterday (Tuesday) from 9 to 9.45pm in the community sports complex.
Fit Kids Club
The above club is running on Fridays in the CYMS hall, O’Connell Square. This year, it caters for children aged from four years to ten years. For details contact Bryan.

Fine Gael Christmas Party
The Oliver J. Flanagan branch of Fine Gael are holding their Christmas party in the Mellick Inn on Friday, December 17. A buffet will be served and there will be a raffle with lots of prizes. Tickets at 10 are available from members.
