The 2005 Republican Resistance Calendar is now available and ad 2005 is the 100th anniversary of the founding of Sinn Fein, this year’s calendar contains both historical and topical illustrations. Anyone interested please contact John Nelson.
Grow Group
A Grow Group meets each week in Mountmellick. If you are someone who experiences depression or anxiety attacks or who is simply in need of company come along.
You will have an opportunity to meet others, share your problems in confidence, get support and make new friends. All are welcome.
Meetings take place in the MDA, Irishtown at 3pm on Monday. For further information please contact Harriet.

Mountmellick Juvenile Soccer
Mountmellick u12’s played Abbeyleix on Saturday, December 11 in Connor Davis Park. Mountmellick got off to a great start with a goal from Pat Keating. Abbeyleix equalised shortly afterwards due to a defensive mix up. Mountmellick regained the led with a goal from Niall Donoher and before half time Gary Donoher put them 3-1 ahead.
Abbeyleix dominated the second half but missed numerous chances. With two minutes to go, Joe Bergin scored a goal but it was too late for Abbeyleix to save the day. This was an entertaining game played in good conditions. Well played to both teams. Final score Mountmellick 3, Abbeyleix 2.
Late Andrew Paul Donovan
The death took place of Andrew Paul Donovan on Thursday, December 9 at his residence in Birmingham. Andrew was formerly from the Neale, Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo and his wife Louise (nee Phelan) is from Clonterry in Mountmellick. His remains were removed from Dublin airport to St. Joseph’s Church, Mountmellick on Thursday, December 16 arriving at 7pm.
Requiem Mass was celebrated at noon with burial afterwards to St. Joseph’s cemetery. Andrew is mourned by his wife Louise, brothers, sisters, family, relatives and friends.
Late Mrs Whelan
There was deep regret at the news of the death of Margaret (Madge) Whelan of Connolly Street at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Mountmellick on Wednesday, December 15. Madge was predeceased by her husband Michael and her son Paddy. Madge was held in high esteem by all her neighbours and friends and all who knew her and will be sadly missed.
Removal from St. Vincent’s Chapel of Repose to St. Joseph’s Church took place on Thursday evening. Requiem Mass was celebrated at 10am with burial afterwards to St. Joseph’s cemetery. Madge is mourned by her sons and daughter, family, relatives and friends.
