Macra panto starts tonight
Today (Wednesday) sees the start of panto time again in Mountmellick with Macra staging Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs for five nights in the newly extended hall in Patrick Street.
The light entertainment group will take to the stage for the opening night and will continue to provide hilarity until Sunday, February 22, with curtain up at 8.30pm each night.
Macra’s previous pantos have been great nights of entertainment with music, song, dance and comedy having the audience going home with their sides aching from laughter and this year promises to be as good if not better. So, get your tickets early in O’Gorman’s or the Credit Union to ensure you don’t miss a great night out. Tickets - adults 8; children 5.
Juvenile GAA registration
Registration of juvenile GAA players will take place in the clubhouse, Acragar, on Saturday, February 21, from 1 to 3pm. All existing and new members please attend. Parents with any queries please contact John O’Neill.
Fit Kids Club
Are on a break for the school mid-term break. They will meet again on Tuesday, February 24, in Owenass hall. There are now three lessons: 3.30-4.30pm for 5-6 years; 4.30-5.30pm for 6-7-year-olds, and 5.35-6.35pm for 8-12-year-olds. Prior booking is available to guarantee a place. The school is collecting tokens from the Irish Independent and would appreciate it if tokens could be given to pupils or left in to the school.
ST. Joseph’s GNS/SCOIL Phadraig Naofa
Are taking part in the “Building for the Future” competition. They would be grateful if people could collect tokens from the Irish Independent and give the to pupils or send them in to the school. The schools’ target is 7,470 tokens.

Are in attendance every Wednesday at MDA, Irishtown, from 10am to noon or may be contacted at the Portlaoise office. Anyone who would like help with tax problems, social welfare entitlements, health, housing or any related problem is welcome to attend.
Parish Fundraiser
The annual fundraiser, held in association with Carlow College fundraiser, will begin at the end of February with the first being held on Friday, February 27, in the town hall at 8.30pm. Be sure to get your ticket before this date to be in with a chance to win great prizes. This is a six-month draw with 1,500 in prize money each month for the local fundraiser divided as follows: 1. 500; 2. 150; 3. 150 and 50 x 20. There are also great prizes to be won in the Carlow draw, including cars, a world tour holiday, a conservatory, a home cinema entertainment system and much more. Tickets are 120 or 20 per month for six months. Tickets are available from the parish office, primary schools, the sports hall, Macra and Comhaltas.
St. Joseph’s Church Renovations
A public meeting regarding the renovations to St. Joseph’s Curch will be held on Monday, February 23, at 8.15pm in Owenass hall with Eamon Hedderman in attendance. Everyone welcome.
Girls Soccer
Mountmellick juvenile soccer club is looking for girls 14-17 years who are interested in playing soccer for the coming year. Training will start in one week. For more information please contact Mick.
