Cubs enjoyable night out
The group had a very enjoyable night out recently at the Roll n Bowl, Portlaoise, to celebrate the amalgamation of the old organisations of the Scout Association of Ireland and the Catholic Boy Scouts which will be under the one umbrella from January 1 of Scouting Ireland.
The group will be meeting again on Thursday, January 8, after the Christmas holidays to continue the winter programme with the chef and first aid badges. The boys will be travellinjg to Raheen on Saturday, January 10, to see the panto Red Riding Hood.

Laois Citizenz Information Service is in attendance every Wednesday at the MDA, Irishtown, from 10am to noon or may be contacted at Portlaoise office. Anyone who would like help with tax problems, social welfare entitlements, health, housing or any related problem is welcome to attend.

Late Mary Mcdonald
The death of Mary McDonald of 21 Emmet Terrace occurred on Thursday, January 1, at St. Brigid’s Hospital Shaen. Mary’s passing is mourned by her family, relatives, neighbours and friends. Removal took place to St. Joseph’s Church on Friday evening. Requiem Mass was celebrated on Saturday at 11 am followed by burial afterwards in St. Joseph’s cemetery. Mary is also mourned by her nieces Mary and Theresa, nephews Joe and Richard, relatives, and friends to whom the sincere sympathy of the community is extended.
Late Tony Smith
There was widespread regret at the news of the death of Tony Smith of 19 Twomey Park on Sunday, January 3. A liked and respected man, Tony will be sadly missed by many. Removal from his residence to St. Joseph’s Church took place on Monday for Requiem Mass and burial afterwards in St. Joseph’s cemetery. He is mourned by his wife Marie, sons Owen and Tony, daughters Michelle and Natalie, family, relatives and friends to whom the sincere sympathy of the community is extended.
