Juvenile GAA registration
The registration of Mountmellick Juvenile GAA will take place in the clubhouse in Acragar on Saturday, February 21 from 1-3 pm.

Mountmellick Juvenile GAA AGM
A well attended Juvenile GAA AGM took place on Friday, January 30. The outgoing chairman Michael Hyland thanked everyone for their involvement during the year. The outgoing secretary Catherine Bishop read her report highlighting juvenile activities and progress throughout the year.
The election of officers took place with Eugene Quigley elected as new chairman and Ray Hogan as new secretary with John O’Neill as PRO.
The incoming committee thanked the acknowledged the outgoing committee for their work during the year and then a lively discussion took place on various items. The club registration was organised for Saturday, February 21 from 1 pm to 3 pm in the clubhouse, Acragar. Everyone’s cooperation in this matter is important.
Mountmellick Tennis Club
The above club is running a multi-sports camp from Monday, February 16 to Friday, February 20 for 6-12 year olds. This will be held indoors and outdoors. Anyone interested please contact Bryan.
The Rock GAA AGM
The AGM of The Rock GAA Club took place recently and at a well attended meeting, members discussed activities over the past year, as well as plans for the future, including ongoing pitch development.
After ten years in the position, Paddy Delaney stood down as chairman of the club and he along with fellow outgoing officers Pat Murphy and Pat Delaney were thanked for their contribution to the club.
The meeting passed votes of sympathy to the Conroy, Kehoe and Mullen families.
The club wishes to thank all who recently purchased tickets for the recent all county members draw. It is with this continuing support that the club is able to continue to develop at both juvenile and adult level.

Macra Panto
It will shortly be panto time again in Mountmellick with Macra staging Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs for five nights in their newly extended hall in Patrick Street. The light entertainment group will take to the stage on Wednesday, February 18 for the opening night and will continue to provide hilarity until Sunday, February 22.
Macra’s previous pantos have been great nights of entertainment with music, song and dance and comedy to have the audience going home with their sides aching from laughter and this promises to be as good if not better. So get your tickets early in O’Gorman’s to ensure you don’t miss a great night out.
Lourdes
Names and deposits are now being taken for this year’s parish pilgrimage to Lourdes from August 13 to 18. All in fare is 600. For booking please contact Mrs Ann Hanlon.

The school is collecting tokens from the Irish Independent and would appreciate if tokens could be given to the pupils or left into the school.
ST. Joseph’s GNS And Scoil Phadraig Naofa
The above school are taking part in the Building for the Future competition. They would be grateful if people could collect tokens from the Irish Independent and give them to pupils or send them into the school. The schools target is 7470 tokens.
Mountmellick Parish Draw
The annual draw held in association with Carlow College draw will begin soon. This is a six month draw with 1,500 in prize money for the local draw divided as follows-1 250; 2 150; 3 100 and 50 x 20. There are also great prizes to be won in the Carlow draw including cars, a world tour holiday, a conservatory, a home cinema entertainment system, much more and cash prizes also.
Tickets are 120 or 20 per month for six months. The first draw takes place on Friday, February 27 in the Town Hall at 8.30 pm. Tickets are available from the parish office, the primary schools, the sports hall, Macra and Comhaltas.
Laois Citizens Information Service
The above is in attendance every Wednesday at MDA Irishtown from 10 am to noon or else may be contacted at the Portlaoise office. Anyone who would like help with tax problems, social welfare entitlements, health, housing or any related problem are welcome to attend.
Grow Group
A Grow Group meets each week in Mountmellick. If you are someone who experienced depression of anxiety attacks or who is simply in need of company do come along. You will have an opportunity to meet others, share your problems in confidence, get support and make new friends. All are welcome. Meetings take place in the MDA, Irishtown, at 3 pm every Monday. Late Mr Mullen
There was widespread shock at the news of the sudden death of Kevin Mullen on Tuesday, January 27. Kevin of The Rock, Mountmellick was a well liked and respected man, a good friend and neighbour, his passing is sadly regretted. Removal from his residence to St. Joseph’s Church took place on Thursday evening. Requiem Mass was celebrated at noon on Friday with burial afterwards to St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Kevin is mourned by his wife Moira, his sons Kevin, Hugh, Ruadhan and Patrick, his daughters Sandra, Deobra and Antoinette, family, relatives and friends to whom the sincere sympathy of the community is extended on their bereavement.

Speech and Drama Classes
