Maverick fundraiser
The Maverick Motorcycle Club are holding a fundraiser in aid
of People in Need on Saturday, June 12.
This is a rock night and will take place in the Harbour Bar. Featuring Mimic
and Power Tripping, you are guaranteed a great night of rock music and craic.
Tickets at 8 are available from any member of the Maverick Motorcycle Club.
In the past, club members have raised money for St. Vincent’s Hospital, Mountmellick; St. Luke’s Hospital, Dublin; Dove House, Abbeyleix, and the Special Olympics. Please lend your support.
Athletics Winners
Laois county championships were held recently and Mountmellick Athletics Club results - senior men 100m: 1, Alan Bloomer; senior men 400m: 1, Alan Bloomer; senior women shot putt: 2, Carol Hughes; senior women long jump: 2, Carol Hughes.
Tennis Club
Summer coaching programme continues on Friday afternoons with training on Tuesday evenings. Adult club nights continue on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Adults interested in keeping fit during the summer are welcome. For more details contact Bryan.
Children’s Computer Training Classes
Classes for children in third and fourth classes will be held in the MDA, Irishtown, on Monday or Tuesday afternoons from 3 to 5pm. For more information please contact Imelda Burke.
Conquer Cancer
Thanks to everyone who supported the annual churchgate collection for Conquer Cancer on Saturday and Sunday, May 29 and 30. Thanks also to the collectors for their time.
Citizen’s Info
Is in attendance every Wednesday at MDA, Irishtown, from 10am to noon or may be contacted at the Portlaoise office. Anyone who would like help with tax problems, social welfare entitlements, health, housing or any related problem is welcome to attend.
Grow Group
A Grow group meets each week in Mountmellick. If you are someone who experiences depression or anxiety attacks or who is simply in need of company, do come along. You will have an opportunity to meet others, share your problems in confidence, get support and make new friends. All are welcome. Meetings take place in the MDA, Irishtown, at 3pm every Monday. GAA golf classic takes place on Friday, June 4, at Portarlington Golf Club.
Environment Group Joins Forces With TT
At a recent meeting of Mountmellick Environment Group (MEG), it was agreed that MEG would join forces with Mountmellick Tidy Towns over the summer months to promote good environmental practice throughout the town and to encourage, jointly, householders in Mountmellick to make a concerted effort to eliminate litter and to improve their aesthetic surroundings. Adjudication for the national tidy towns competition takes place during June and everybody is requested to do their best to ensure a good result. The tidy towns is reactivating the local tidy towns competition and full details will be available shortly. For more information contact Ger Lynch.
