Late Darragh Conroy
There was widespread shock and grief throughout the community in Mountmellick and the wider community on hearing of the tragic death of 14-year-old Darragh Conroy on Tuesday, November 11.
Darragh was the only child of Jack and Patricia Conroy of Briar Lane, Mountmellick. A student in second year in Mountmellick Community School, Darragh was very popular among all in the school and in Mountmellick itself, being very friendly, outgoing and kind, with a word and a smile for everyone.
Removal from his home to St. Joseph’s Church took place on Saturday morning. Students from Mountmellick Community School formed a guard of honour along the route. Con-celebrated Requiem Mass was held at noon by celebrant Fr. MacNamara, assisted by Bishop James Moriarty, Fr. Dunphy, Fr. Walsh (Rosenallis), Fr. O’Shea (Arles), Fr. Conlon (Ballinakill), Fr. Whelan SMA, Rev. Olive Donohue and Rev. Noel Fellows.
Burial took place afterwards to St. Joseph’s cemetery with the students from Scoil Phadraig Naofa providing a guard of honour along the route.
The deepest sympathy of the community is extended to Darragh’s parents, Jack and Patricia, his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.
Parents and Child Group
A parents and child group meets each Wednesday in St. Mary’s Hall, Clonaghadoo from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Everyone welcome along. Anyone wishing to donate toys is asked to please contact Joan McEvoy.
