Mountmellick Parents Receive Awards

Mountmellick parents received a boost when eleven of them were awarded certificates for their completion of a course in “Play and the Developing Child” last Wednesday, April 16.

Laois County Childcare Committee LCCC in conjunction with the Mountmellick Development Association Social Inclusion MDASI, ran a ten week IPPA course for a group of parents, including Mountmellick Youth Development Centre participants and homework volunteers of the MYDC in Mountmellick.

The course aimed to promote an understanding of the importance of play in early childhood and the necessity of providing play activities for babies.

It covered issues such as the purpose, benefits and methods involved in imaginative play.

A need was highlighted for such a venture by Liz Stapleton, Liaison Officer of the MYDC, during her time spent working with families in the area.

And those involved got the ball rolling, when they applied to the LCCC seeking support under the Laois County Childcare Committee’s parenting initatives, to set up the venture that was subsequently run in conjunction with the MDASI.

While this was not a parenting course, many issues affecting the guardian’s role were addressed.

Parents received their IPPA certificates for the course that was facilitated by the LCCC, the MDASI and the IPPA in the Mountmellick Development Association.
