Photographic society exhibition
Mountmellick Photographic Society are holding their annual exhibition on Saturday and Sunday, November 22 and 23 in Mountmellick Community School.
All are welcome to view their selection of prints, both colour and monochrome. Each year this exhibition has proved very interesting with a wide variety of prints from both Ireland and abroad on display.
Concert Hall
Is pleased to announce Niall Tobin in concert on Sunday, November 30, at 8.30pm. Admission 15, with concessions 10. Tickets on sale in O’Gorman’s Patrick Street.
Mother and Toddler Group
The mother and toddler group meets each Thursday at 10am in the Methodist Hall (at rear of Methodist Church). All parents and toddlers welcome.
Set Dancing
Set dancing for the winter months has begun in St. Mary’s Hall, clonaghadoo on Wednesday nights at 8.30pm. Beginners and experienced dancers welcome. Tutor - Maureen Culliton. Step dancing also being taught by Maureen on Thursday nights in the ICA Hall, Davitt Road. All welcome.
Laois Citizens Information Service
The above is in attendance every Wednesday at MDA Irishtown from 10am to noon or else may be contacted at the Portlaoise office. Anyone who would like help with tax problems, social welfare entitlements, health, housing or any related problems are welcome to attend.
Athletic Club
Indoor training continues every Tuesday night from 7pm to 8pm in the sports complex for ages 7 to 14 years. New members welcome.
Rainbows
Rainbows is a peers support programme to assist children or adults who are grieving a death or separation. This is an internationally recognised programme run by trained facilitators. For further information please contact MDA.
Grow Group
A Grow Group meets each week in Mountmellick. If you are someone who experienced depression or anxiety attacks or who is simply in need of company do come along. You will have an opportunity to meet others, share your problems in confidence, get support and make new friends. All are welcome. Meetings take place in the MDA, Irishtown at 3pm every Monday. Tickets are now on sale for the Federation dinner dance in the Castle Arms, Durrow on Thursday, December 4.
Become a Food And Health Instructor
The Food and Health Project is a joint initiative between the Midland Health Board and Mountmellick Development Association. Training will take place over 16 sessions, (running on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings) from Monday, November 24. If interested please contact Barbara Lalor.
Christmas Cards
St. Vincent’s Hospital now had Christmas cards for sale in aid of the Patients Benefit Fund. A pack of eight is €5.
PTAA
The regional dinner dance will be held in the Hazel Hotel, on Friday November 21 at 9pm.
MACRA
Interested in becoming a member? The Macra Hall is open every Friday night at 8.30pm for basketball training. Come along and bring a friend.
Ardara Hill Walking Club
The Stradbally woodlands walk takes place on Sunday, November 23. The bus for this family day out will call at Mountmellick at 1.15pm. Book your place on the bus for this event by contacting Joan Roche by Friday, November 14. This walk finished in The Fishermans’s Inn for refreshments and set dancing. Cost is 13, includes refreshments.
Library
These are the new opening hours for the library. Monday is now a closed day. Tuesday 3pm to 5.30pm and 6pm to 8pm. Wednesday 3pm to 5.30pm. Thursday 3pm to 5.30pm and 6pm to 8pm. Friday 3pm to 5.20pm. Saturday 10am to 1pm. For enquiries please contact Fiona.
Parents & Child Group
A parents and child group continues each Wednesday in St. Mary’s Hall, Clonaghadoo from 10.30am to 12.30pm. Everyone is welcome along. Anyone wishing to donate toys is asked to please contact Joan McEvoy.
Cub Scouts
Mountmellick Cub Scouts have resumed meeting on Thursdays at 7pm in the Owenass Hall.
Great Performance
Mountmellick Youth Theatre Group won great praise for their staging of ‘Early Man’ on Saturday night, November 8. The group had put in intensive preparation under the guidance of director Helen Cullen and assistant director Barry Kelly and their work paid off well on the night. All the actors gave of their with particularly strong performances from the lead characters Eoghan O’Neill as Bog Boy, Maria Strong as Sam and Amanda Quigley as Louise. They were very ably supported by Aine O’Neill, JJ Hills, Stephen Cullen, Louise Blanche, Christian Cullen, Kenny Stapleton and Eilish Carey. Niamh Carey and Nicola Dease provided the voiceovers for Ms Museum 1 and Ms Museum 2. The members of the class group were Lorraine Curham, Sarah Dunne, Niamh Ryan and Leona Duff. Barry Kelly also was in charge of lighting assisted by Kevin Toland. The set was designed and constructed by Dave Anderton and Niamh Carey also was stage manager.
