Mountmellick - Sewing guild display of vestments

The above are holding their annual display of vestments and sale of work on Mission Sunday, October 19 in the Owenass Hall. Tickets for their annual sale are now available from members with very good prizes. They are priced at 1 each. The draw will be held at the conclusion of the sale in the Owenass Hall. This is the Guild’s only fundraiser during the year and they would appreciate your support for their missionary work.

Mini-Sale

There will be mini-sale in the Methodist Hall on Saturday, October 18 from 10 am to 3 pm. There will be stalls of good-as-new clothes, bric-a-brac, toys, curtains, clothes and home made cakes, Christmas cakes, puddings and hampers.

Irish Dancing

Irish dancing classes have restarted on Friday’s in the Owenass Hall, beginners 5-6 pm, advanced group 1 6-7 pm; advanced group 2 7-8 pm. Contact Leona.

Mother and Toddler Group

The mother and toddler group meets each Thursday at 10 am in the Methodist Hall (at rear of Methodist Church). All parents and toddlers welcome.

Set Dancing

Set dancing for the winter months has begun in St. Mary’s Hall, Clonaghadoo on Wednesday nights at 8.30 pm. Beginners and experienced dancers welcome. Tutor-Maureen Culliton.

Mountmellick Tennis Club

Junior coaching for autumn continues as normal on Wednesdays and Sundays. This is catering for 4-18 year olds and for members as well as non-members. Anyone interested contact Bryan.

Bridge

Bridge continues at the usual time in the Town Hall on Thursday nights.

Grow Group

A Grow Group meets each week in Mountmellick. If you are someone who experienced depression or anxiety attacks or who is simply in need of company do come along. You will have an opportunity to meet others, share your problems in confidence, get support and make new friends. All are welcome. Meetings take place in the MDA, Irishtown at 3 pm every Monday. Laois Citizens Information Service

The above is in attendance every Wednesday at MDA Irishtown, from 10 am to 12.30 pm or else may be contacted at the Portlaoise office. Anyone who would like help with tax problems, social welfare entitlements, health, housing or any related problem are welcome to attend.

Snooker Club

The above club in the Community Sports Centre is open Monday to Friday, from 7.30 pm to 11 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 7-10 pm. It is supervised nightly. Anyone interested is very welcome.

Surfers Paradise

A new cyber cafe is now open seven days a week from 4 pm to 10 pm in Lord Edward St.

Athletic Club

Indoor training has begun every Tuesday night from 7-8 pm in the Sports Complex for ages 7-14 years. New members welcome.

Gala Fashion Extravaganza

The above is being organised in aid of Mountmellick Community Sports Centre. It will be held on Thursday, November 13 at 8 pm in the Sports Centre, so keep that date free in your diary. Tickets will be on sale at 7 each. More details shortly.

The Rosary will be said in Castlebrack Cemetery on Sunday, October 19 and 26 at 7 pm. All are welcome.

Macra

At Mountmellick Macra’s recent AGM outgoing chairman P. Culleton praised the members for their active year and for all the competitions won over the past year. The new committee is as follows-chair-person David Connolly; secretary Anne Marie Hourigan, treas. Claire Conroy; PRO Rosemary Whelan, hall manager Alice McCann, president Alice McCann. The club is enrolling new members at the moment. Anyone interested should contact any of the above committee.
