Fun run on Thursday
THE above race/fun run and walk takes place on Thursday, May 15.
Entries will be taken in the Owenass Hall from 6.30 pm. The race begins at
7.30 pm. It will begin out-side the MDA, Irishtown, and follow the usual route,
a map will be posted. Entry: adults 5 and children 3.
Laois citizens information service
The above will be in attendance every Wednesday at MDA, Irishtown from 10 am to 12.30 pm or else may be contacted at the Portlaoise office. Anyone who would like to help with tax problems, social welfare entitlements, health, housing or any related problem are welcome to attend.
ICA
The annual Mass will be held in ICA Hall on Thursday, May 15.
Active retirement group
A sponsored walk in aid of the Special Olympics will be held on today, Wednesday, May 14. All will meet at MDA at 10.30 am and the walk will start from the MDA at 11.30 am.
Mountmellick tennis club
Membership for the club is now open for family, adult, student, secondary and primary school. The club night continues for adults on Mondays from 7.15 pm. Training for junior tennis academy players continues on Saturday. For more details on joining the club or the activities in the junior tennis academy contact Bryan.
Lough Derg
A three day pilgrimage to Lough Derg will take place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, July 4,5 and 6. For further details please contact Maura. A deposit is required.
Carers Association
The Carers Association is asking for volunteers to walk or run on their behalf in the Dublin Mini-Marathon on Bank Holiday Monday, June 2. Sponsorship cards and details may be got by contacting John Farren. A home care service is available to assist those caring for a seriously ill or housebound family member. The service is free of charge and provides the carer with a welcome break. For details contact Mary Redmond.
Castlebrack Rosary
The Rosary will be said in Castlebrack Cemetery on the following Sundays-May 18 and 25 at 7 pm. All are welcome to come along.
Kolbe Centre
Many thanks to all who contributed to the Kolbe Centre collection recently. A total of 864 was collected. Thanks also to all the collectors for their help. Your support is very much appreciated.
GAA Summer Camp
It’s the time of year to be planning activities for the children’s summer holidays and the GAA have announced the times of their annual summer camps. The Mountmellick Camp will be held from Tuesday, July 22 to Friday, July 25 in Parc Acragar from 10 am to 2.30 pm daily. This camp is open to both boys and girls from 2nd to 6th class. Activities will include coaching in Gaelic football, hurling and camogie, quizzes, matches and visits from inter-county stars. Application forms are available from local schools or from the Laois GAA office. The cost of the camp is 30 per person with family reductions. Each child will receive a t-shirt, a fun-size football or all weather sliotar, a baseball cap, sports socks, a sports bag and sports water bottle.
