Owenass Scooters Club Hold Fund Raiser
Mountmellick’s very own scooter club “Owenass Scooter Club” held a fund raiser on Friday the 13/12/2003 in the Mellick Inn. The fund raiser was in aid of the Mountmellick Christmas Tree committee who fund the lighting of the towns Christmas Tree, Christmas lights and the Santa Sunday, where school children from the local community get a chance to meet Santa Claus in person and received a gift from the man in red.
The fund raiser was deemed as very successful with members of the Owenass Scooter Club, soul club another scooter club and the Mountmellick Mavericks, another Bike club. All making an appearance to support the fund raiser.
Double L, provided the music for all tastes from the opening of the fund raiser to very late into the night.
Approximately 350 people in total turned up for the fund raiser. Committee members Brian and Ger Lynch said they were delighted with the turn out and thanked the Scooter club and everyone for there continued support they show towards the Christmas Tree committee.

Christmas Tree Lighting up
The annual event of lighting the Christmas Tree was held on Tuesday night last 08/12/2003. The lighting of the tree is an eagerly awaited event by the town folk and kiddies as it marks the Santa Claus is very close to arriving in the town.
This year sees another change to the trees design, the old wiring and traditional Tungsten bulbs were replaced with rope lights. This redesign was carried out due to new EU regulations and the fact the original wiring was in need of replace

RTE’s Nationwide comes to town
RTE’s premier television programme “Nationwide” a television programme dedicated to local events came to Mountmellick on Saturday 13/12/2003 to discover the deep history of the Christmas Tree and Speak to the Christmas tree Committee members and local dignitaries about the tree.
During the day the Nationwide crew interviewed local dignitaries and members of the Christmas Tree Committee. When night fell some local school children sang some Christmas carols and the tree was captured in full splendour.
