Get your running shoes on for Carers

The carers association is asking for volunteers to walk or run on their behalf in the Dublin mini marathon on bank holiday Monday, June 2.

Sponsorship cards and details may be had by contacting John Farren. A home care service is available to assist those caring for a seriously ill or housebound family member. The service is free of charge and provides the carer with a welcome break. For details please contact Mary Redmond.

SMA

The SMA annual Mass and get-together will be held in the Macra hall, Mountmellick, on Thursday, May 15, at 8.30pm.

Citizen's info service

The above will be in attendance every Wednesday at MDA, Irishtown, from 10am to 12.30pm or else may be contacted at the Portlaoise office. Anyone who would like to help with tax problems, social welfare entitlements, health, housing or any related problem is welcome to attend.

Clay shoot

Mountmellick and District Game Preservation Association and Gun Club Ltd. are holding an open clay shoot - 50 bird sporting - on Sunday, May 11, from noon to 5pm. It is being held at Gorman’s Bog, Tullamore Road, Garrymore. Many cash prizes to be won. There will also be a vermin competition from May to January 2004. See the committee for details.

Juvenile GAA

Football training - under-8 and 14 training on Thursdays from 7 to 8pm; u-16s on Thursay from 6.30 to 8pm; u-10 and 12 training on Thursdays from 7 to 8pm instead of Fridays; hurling training: u-16s on Mondays from 6.30 to 8pm; u-8, 10 and 12s on Wednesdays from 7 to 8pm.

Childminders

Laois County Childcare Committee is hosting an evening of relaxation/reflexology for childminders in Mountmellick and surrounding areas. The venue and date for this event is the MDA on Thursday, May 8, at 7.30pm. Admission is free and all childminders and parents are welcome. For further information contact Kathy or LCCC office.
