Gala fashion extravaganza

A Gala fashion extravaganza will be held in aid of Mountmellick Community Sports Centre on Thursday, November 13. The show will be held in the Community Sports Complex and admission is 8.

Number One Boutique, Colgan’s Sportswear, Farrell’s Dress Hire, and The Bridal Hall are providing a kaleidoscope of fashion for all tastes and ages.

Number One Boutique, Mountmellick, stocks a wide range of labels-Max Pierre, Libra, Traffic, Tivoli and John Bentley to name a few. Number One also caters for sizes 10-22.

Colgan’s Sportswear, Portarlington stock gear for every sporting occasion from tracksuits to golfing clothes, to a wide range of branded trainers. Colgan’s has something for everyone.

Farrell’s Dress Hire and The Bridal Hall have a beautiful selection of dress suits, bridal gowns, bridesmaids dresses and evening wear to equip you elegantly for that special occasion.

The organisers are honoured to have some very special guests modelling for them on the night. Some of the Laois Minor Champions will be turning their hand to modelling. You will also get a chance to see both the Leinster Final Cup and the All-Ireland Minor Champions Cup.

So why not come along support a worthwhile cause and have a good night of entertainment and fashion inspiration all in one.

Mountmellick Library

Ms Eileen Broomfield has retired as Mountmellick librarian. Ms Broomfield had worked in the library since its inception and her many friends wish her the very best in her retirement. Fiona Lynch has now taken up duty as our new branch librarian. The library has new opening hours with a Saturday morning opening making it particularly assessable to many people. Monday is now a closed day. Tuesday 3-5.30 pm and 6-8 pm; Wednesday 3-5.30 pm; Thursday 3-5.30 pm and 6-8 pm. Friday 3-5.20 pm. Saturday 10 am to 1 pm. For enquiries please contact Fiona.

Mountmellick Concert Hall

The above are pleased to announce the forthcoming events. Saturday, November 15-Meeting Lane Theatre Company with ‘The Woman at the Window’ featuring Paula Dempsey at 8.30 pm. Saturday, November 29-Niall Tobin in concert at 8.30 pm. Admission €15 with concessions €10.
Mother and Toddler Group

The mother and toddler group meets each Thursday at 10 am in the Methodist Hall (at rear of Methodist Church). All parents and toddlers welcome.

Green Schools

Mountmellick Community School ‘Green Schools Committee’ are currently looking for new members to join in their current ambitious projects. The current 17 members are working very hard at the moment in order to achieve the green flag. Any interested people willing to help, please meet with them on Wednesdays at 3.45 pm in the board room. On behalf of this committee we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the winners of our recent Halloween recy-cling art project. First prize went to Susan Lee who submitted a 3D Halloween scene. Second prize was a tie between Nicola Dease with a model of a witch and Lorraine Curram with a wooden guillotine. We would like to thank all entrants for their hard work and co-operation.

Set Dancing

Set dancing for the winter months has begun in St. Mary’s Hall, Clonaghadoo on Wednesday nights at 8.30 pm. Beginners and experienced dancers welcome. Tutor-Maureen Culliton.

Athletics Club

Indoor training every Tuesday night from 7-8 pm in the sports complex for ages 7-14 years. New members welcome.

Grow Group

A Grow Group meets each week in Mountmellick. If you are someone who experienced depression or anxiety attacks or who is simply in need of company do come along. You will have an opportunity to meet others, share your problems in confidence, get support and make new friends. All are welcome. Meetings take place in the MDA, Irishtown at 3 pm every Monday. Rainbows

Rainbows is a peers support programme to assist children or adults who are grieving a death or separation. This is an internationally recognised programme run by trained facilitators. For further information please contact MDA

Tickets are now on sale for the Federation Dinner Dance in the Castle Arms, Durrow on Thursday, December 4.

Become a Food and Health Instructor

The Food and Health Project is a joint initiative between the Midland Health Board and Mountmellick Development Association. Training will take place over 16 sessions, (running on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings) from Monday, November 24. If interested please contact Barbara Lalor.

Christmas Cards

St. Vincent’s Hospital now have Christmas Cards for sale in aid of the Patients Benefit Fund. A pack of eight is 5.

PTAA

The regional dinner dance will be held in the Hazel Hotel, on Friday, November 21 at 9 pm. The regional meeting will take place on Thursday, November 6 at 8 pm in Raheen.

Macra News

Well done to the basketball and volleyball teams who recently played in the county rounds in Mountmellick. The basketball team is successful through to the next round in Limerick. Macra are holding a table quiz tonight, Wednesday, November 12 at 9.30 pm in the Mellick Inn. All funds raised go towards the building fund. All members and local clubs are asked to support. Interested in becoming a member? The Macra Hall is open every Friday night at 8.30 pm for basketball training. Come along and bring a friend.

Ardara Hill Walking Club

The Stradbally woodlands walk takes place on Sunday, November 23. The bus for this family day out will call at Mountmellick at 1.15 pm. Book your place on the bus for this event by contacting Joan Roche by Friday, November 14. The walk finishes in The Fisherman’s Inn for refreshments and set dancing. Cost €13 includes refreshments.
