Soccer

Rosenallis are still on a winning streak in the OWL league. Last week they met St Angus for their third game in in Div. 1 of the Cannon Ireland Cup. Rosenallis got off to an ideal start when Eddie Flanagan nodded home to the net although there was some dispute over the goal from the St Aengus side. A few minutes later a well aimed free from Eddie Flanagan found David Peake who headed it home to put Rosenallis two in front. St Aengus tried hard to reduce the deficit but could not break through the strong Rosenallis defence.

The second half saw Rosenallis in charge but after some good play St Aengus managed to educe the deficit by one but not for long however. Rosenallis piled on the pressure and soon regained their lead when a good header by Noel Conroy just managed to cross the line after almost being saved by the St Aengus goalie. St Aengus were tough opponents and did not give up until the final whistle when Rosenallis ended on another victory this time by 3-1. Those to shine for Rosenallis were Kenneth Farrell, Noel Conroy, Eddie Flanagan David Peake and Darren McEvoy.

The B team also did well in their match against Abbeyleix and scored their first win of the season. Playing away Rosenallis got off to a good start with a well taken goal by Peter Ging. Abbeyleix then went into action and after a few minutes scored the equaliser. Both sides played well for the remainder of the half with good defending resulting in an even score at half time. It was an all out battle in the second half to get in front and the Rosenallis lads gave it their best. They eventually scored the winning goal from a penalty sent home by Bobbie Malone. The Abbeyleix side tried to claw back a goal in the closing minutes but the Rosenallis lads held on to win by 2-1. Best for Rosenallis B were Joe Conroy, Paddy Dunne, John Hughes, John Gorman and new player Peter Ging.
