Mountmellick seeks traffic relief
Traffic was choking Mountmellick but still there was “a certain level of opposition” to the proposed inner relief road for the town, Deputy John Moloney told the County Council annual budget meeting.
He hoped the National Road Authority (NRA) would continue to promote the relief road project. And he urged the Council to adopt a traffic plan for Mountmellick. Some people would be prepared to enter into an arrangement with the Council to permit their property to be used for parking, he revealed.
Added Deputy Moloney” “It takes one half hour to get from one end of the town to the other.”
County Engineer Gerry McGlinchey said the Council would next year try to prepare a land use and transportation study for Mountmellick.
