Niall Lynch hits four as Mountmellick close in on title LFL Counties Major Division
Mountmellick Utd......... 6 Arlington ........................0
MOUNTMELLICK United could be just one game away from clinching the Counties Major Division title after steam rolling Arlington last Sunday. Amazingly, Arlington were in with a mathematical chance of lifting the title themselves prior to Sunday's game but Mountmellick dismissed them completely with this rout.
Arlington were understrength for a game which kicked off at a furious pace with Mountmellick putting on the pressure. Eventually Jody Davis forced Arlington centre-half Liam Conroy to make a backpass which beat his own 'keeper for an own goal and the lead for Mountmellick.
Niall Lynch then scored from his brother Dinny's pass and Niall then added his second to make it 3-0 on the half hour. On half-time Niall Lynch completed a quick hat-trick with a goal direct from a corner kick and Mountmellick were denied a fifth before the break when Arlington's stand-in 'keeper Willie Ryan superbly saved a fierce drive.
On the hour the goal of the game was scored. A super cross by Dinny Lynch was met first time by Robbie Hibbitts from 12 yards out and when his shot rebounded off the bar Niall Lynch pounced for his fourth. Mountmellick's sixth goal came from Hibbitts again after good play by Dinny Lynch as the home side coasted to what could be a crucial win in the penultimate game of the campaign.
