Story Telling Evening

There will be an evening of storytelling in The Mellick Inn on Wednesday, October 30 from 8 pm, admission - £5.

This evening of fun and nostalgia will feature Shay Flannery with stories form the diaries of Joe O'Neill and guest storyteller Liz Weir.

Liz, from Antrim, works as a professional storyteller, travelling the world She has been a featured teller throughout Ireland and the United States at major festivals. In the US she became the first recipient of the International Storybridge Award from the National Storytelling Network.

P.T.A.A. Dinner Dance

The annual PTAA dinner dance is being held on Friday, November 15 in The Hazel Hotel, Monasterevin. Tickets at £18. each are available from any member.

Parents And Friends Of Moore Abbey

The above thank all who supported their recent Church gate collection.

Primary Schools Grounds

In the interest of children's safety no dogs are now allowed at any time in the grounds of the primary schools. Adults who have been walking their dogs across the playground are now asked to refrain from doing so in the future.

Laois Writers Group

The Laois Writer's Group will meet again on Tuesday, November 5 in the County Hall, Portlaoise from 7 pm to 9 pm.

New members are always welcome. The group meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month.

Painting Of St. Joseph's Church

The next meeting concerning the above will take place on Tuesday, November 5 at 8 pm in St. Joseph's Church, Everyone welcome.

Our Lady's Sewing Guild

The above thank all who supported their display of vestments and sale of work.

Halloween Disco

A disco for teens is being held in the Macra Hall from 9 pm to 11.30 pm on Wednesday, October 30, £4. entrance.

On Thursday, October 31 from 5 pm to 7 pm a disco is being held for children also in the Macra Hall, £4. entrance and £2 for face painting.

St. Joseph's G.N.S.

The parents council of the above school was elected as follows for the coming year: chairperson, Jack Deegan; assistant chairperson, Maura Williams; secretary, Claire Dempsey; assistant secretary, Brenda Forde; treasurer, Aisling Delaney; assistant treasurer, Mary Strong; PRO, Mary O'Shea.

The next meeting will be on Monday, November 4 at 8.15 pm.

Fashion Show

A fashion show in aid of the cancer unit at Portlaoise Hospital is being held in the Hazel Hotel on Wednesday, November 6 at 8.15 pm. Tickets are available from Greg Keenan.

Computer Training

The above course for 1st to 6th class pupils takes place in MDA, lrishtown during November. It will be a ten week desktop publishing training course during which the children will be shown various desktop publishing software titles. This allows children to create cards, brochures, newsletters, certificates, banners and much more.
Each pupil will receive a certificate on completion of the course. Application forms are available from their schools or contact Imelda at (0502) 24525.

Embroidery Classes

Mountmellick embroidery classes continue every Tuesday night from 8 pm - 10 pm in the MDA offices, Mountmellick. All are welcome.

Special Services

Mountmellick Methodist Church are holding a week long series of Special Services commencing on Sunday, November 10 at 7pm and continuing each week night at 8pm. The speaker is Mr. Michael Williams whose work with the Stauros Foundation involves dealing with people who have addiction problems. His topic for the week will be 'The Work of the Holy Spirit'. Everyone will be made most welcome.
