Sarsfields passed another milestone at the weekend when the club won it's
tenth Laois title by defeating Shanahoe in the 2001 minor final.
Leading by 1-10 to 1-4 at the break, Sarsfields allowed their opponents back
into the match at the start of the second half and the gap narrowed to four
points.
The warning signs were spotted however, and the forwards again clicked into
gear and added 2-4 before the end, to win comfortably by 3-14 to 1-7.
For three players on the panel this win was a very special occasion, as they
have been part of every one of the club's ten championship victories. They
are Aoife Cleary, Clare Conlon and Fiona Whelan. A unique achievement by any
standards but particularly so when one considers that all three are still
eligible for U 16 level this year.
Four other players, along with these three, Aileen O'Loughlin, Caroline
Bermingham, Rachel Farrell and Deirdre Halley have now won U 12, U 14, U 16,
minor, junior and intermediate Laois championships.
