Mountmellick Development Association
The MDA was formed as a voluntary organisation in 1982 following the closure of a number of factories both in the town and in the area. The MDA purchased Codds Mill in Irishtown in 1989 (using proceeds from the Splash Of Cash) from Odlums and renovated it. At the time of purchase the building was in severe disrepair. Two- storeys had to be removed and the building was then re-roofed.

The MDA started the conversion of the Old Mill in 1989 and established partnerships with a number of state agencies such as IDA, ESB, ANNCO (now FAS). Through these partnerships the MDA were able to access finance, management staff and trainees to work on the redevelopment of the Mill Building.
The new building opened as the Mountmellick Business Park in 1991, with two factory floors, a restaurant and office space, all of which are completely occupied.
After three years of hard work President Mary Robinson opened the Mountmellick Business Park in 1992.
A further development of the Business Park took place in 1999 when an additional Industrial Unit was built on the site housing three new tenants.
